Despite having a rapid growth and worldwide presence, it does have its own challenges that even the modern world, with all its advanced tools and equipment, is facing. Let us have a look at those challenges.
1. Data Security
Data security is one of the prime challenges that Cloud computing as posed in front of the modern world. Threats like website hacking and virus attack are the biggest problems of cloud computing data security. Before utilizing cloud computing technology for a business, entrepreneurs should think about these things. Once you transfer important data of your organization to a third party, you should make sure you have a cloud security and management system.
2. Lack of sufficient resources and expertise
Lack of proper resources and expertise is one of the cloud migration challenges of the contemporary era. As per the researchers, almost 75% of the respondent marked it as a challenge while 23% said that it was a serious challenge. Although many IT employees are taking different initiatives to improve their expertise in cloud computing future predictions, employers still find it challenging to find employees with the expertise that they require.
3. Control over IT services
IT generally does not have complete control over provisioning, infrastructure delivery, and operation in this cloud-based world. This gives rise to the complicacy of IT to offer important compliance, governance, data quality, and risk management. To eliminate various uncertainties and challenges in shifting to the cloud, IT should embrace the conventional control and IT management processes to incorporate the cloud.
4.
Cost Management
As per the recent researches, a few organizations, handling cloud spending has passed security as the biggest cloud computing challenge. As per their anticipations, organizations are ruining nearly 30% of the money they invest in the cloud. Organizations make wrong decisions, at times, that can increase their expenses. Sometimes, IT professionals like developers turn on a cloud instance implied to be utilized for some time and forget to turn it off again. And some organizations find themselves obstructed by the hidden cloud costing packages that provide several discounts that they might not be using.
5.
Handling Multi-Cloud Environments
Nowadays, most of the organizations have employed multi-cloud strategy. As per the recent researches, nearly 845% of the enterprises are following a multi-cloud strategy and 58% already have their hybrid cloud environment that is combined with the public and private cloud. Furthermore, organizations are utilizing five distinct public and private clouds. Researches have predicted that such strategies may bring complications in the future as managing such complex structures will become a challenging job.
6. Compliance
Compliance is also one of the major challenges faced by cloud computing in the contemporary era. For enterprises using cloud storage, this is an issue. Whenever an organization transfers data from its internal storage to the cloud, it experiences compliance with the laws and regulations of the industry. An interesting law aspect of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is that it will expedite compliance in the future. Many enterprises require employing a data protection professional who can anticipate data security and privacy according to the needs of the law.
7. Migration
Launching a new application in the cloud is an easier procedure as compared to transferring an existing application to a cloud computing environment; which requires a much greater deal of effort to be invested. According to a recent study, 62% people said that their cloud migration projects were more difficult than they anticipated. Alongside this, 64% of migration projects took more time than predicted and 55% went beyond their budgets.
8. Unenlightened Technology
Several cloud computing services have an edge over the technologies such as advanced big data analytics, virtual reality, augmented reality, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The possible drawback to availing this interesting new technology is that services sometimes fail to fulfill the organization’s expectations in terms of dependability, reliability, usability, and functionality.
9.
Integration
Several companies, especially the ones with hybrid cloud environments have
reported issues associated with having their on-premise apps and tools and
public cloud for working together.
According to research, 62% of respondents said integration of legacy systems was their biggest challenge in multi-cloud. Similarly, in a Software One report on cloud cost, 39% of those assessed said integrating legacy systems was one of their biggest worries while utilizing the cloud. This specific challenge, like the other ones discussed in this blog, will not possibly disappear any time in the future.
Conclusion: Although cloud computing challenges are there, if well-managed and administrated, such issues do not mean that our IT route must stay grounded. Both the cloud and Business Intelligence are a perfect fit, as the latter offers the right data to the right people while the former is a rapid way to use BI apps. In spite of the aforementioned possible cloud computing challenges, we are still recommended to seek the trends toward cloud adoption.
