No, you do not need CCAR-F before CCAR-P, because neither exam has a formal prerequisite. Passing Foundations also does not upgrade you to Professional, and each is a separate exam with its own fee. If you are newer to Claude, starting with Foundations builds the base skills first.
The CCAR-F and CCAR-P exams are both closed book, with 120 minutes of testing time and a passing scaled score of 720 on a 100 to 1,000 scale. Professional is aimed at experienced architects who lead enterprise-scale deployments, so it assumes more real design experience than Foundations. Timed scenario practice helps at both levels.
The Claude architect certification is worth it if you design Claude systems at a partner organization, because it gives you a formal way to show that skill to employers and clients. No, only employees of Claude Partner Network organizations can register for CCAR-F or CCAR-P. You need a company email on a domain listed on your organization's partner record, and you must be 18 or older with a government ID. Individuals and non-partners are pointed to free Claude Academy courses with a certificate of completion instead. Partner Network membership is free for organizations.
Each Claude Certified Architect certification is valid for 12 months. Renewing on time is a free, non-proctored assessment, but if it lapses you must retake the full exam at the full fee. After a failed attempt you wait 14 days, then 30, then 90, with at most 4 attempts per exam in any rolling 12 months.
