SQL Essentials Training and Certification

SQL Essentials training is a beginner course that teaches you to write SQL (Structured Query Language) from scratch, with no prior knowledge needed. You learn step by step to write SQL queries and scripts in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, and to retrieve, sort, group, filter, combine and calculate data in a SQL Server database. You also learn to manage data by inserting, updating and deleting records. The course uses SQL Server, but SQL is a standard language, so the same skills work in other relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, IBM Db2 and Microsoft Access.

After this course, you will be able to:

• Define an RDBMS and explain the first three normal forms
• Create and organize tables with DDL statements
• Change data with DML statements
• Retrieve data with the SELECT statement
• Filter and sort data
• Show data from multiple tables with joins
• Use built-in SQL functions

SQL is the standard language for working with relational databases, and almost every organization stores its data in one. As data grows, companies need people who can retrieve and analyze it.

A relational database stores data in organized tables. To get data out, you send SQL queries: requests to retrieve, update, insert or delete data. Database administrators use SQL every day, developers use it to connect applications to databases, and architects use it to design data models. That makes SQL one of the most useful skills for anyone who wants to work in IT or data.

This course is for beginners with no knowledge of or experience with databases.

You need a computer with an Intel Core i3 processor or better, at least 3 GB of RAM (4 GB recommended), a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system and Microsoft SQL Server. The free Express or Developer edition works.

• Building a multi-table relational database
• Solving 25 problems and exercises based on the given schema

There are no prerequisites. Some basic knowledge of databases helps, but is not required.
